Ben Johnson Ben Johnson, was married to my second cousin Carol Jones. Carol was the daughter of Clarence Y. (Fat) Jones who owned the famed Fat Jones Movie Stables. Fat ran the stables that provided horses and western gear to the movies and television shows from 1912 until his death in 1963. The stables were sold when he died and continued to exist until the early-mid 1970's. His rental stables, that used to be located at 11340 Sherman Way east of Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood, was where many movie horses were trained and kept. My Dad, Harry O'Neal (Fat's nephew) and Carol's brother John Jones built 2 or 3 stagecoaches for Fat between 1945 and 1948. They were used for rentals at the stables.
Below are some photos that were given to
me by Ben and Carol and saved by my Mom in scrapbooks that I have kept. Carol passed away in 1994.
